NEW HEAD OF SCHOOL
Our new head of school, Amy Purcell
Vorenberg, officially joined The Philadelphia School this
summer. Her selection
as Head of School marked the conclusion of a comprehensive
national search by the school's Board
of Trustees.
Amy brings a deep commitment to progressive education and has
demonstrated success as a teacher, administrator, and leader
in a progressive school.
Amy came to us from Shady
Hill School, a progressive pre-K-8 school in Cambridge, MA,
where she served as Lower School Head since 2000.
She was also the school’s
Director of Faculty Development and Curricular Programs. Prior
to joining the Shady Hill staff in 1994 as a third grade teacher,
Amy taught at the Atrium School in Watertown, Massachusetts.
She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and holds
a masters of science degree in early childhood education from
Wheelock College.
We are delighted to welcome Amy; her husband, Tom; and their
daughter, Ella, to The Philadelphia School community.

"I am enthusiastic about all aspects of
The Philadelphia School--engaging students, dedicated faculty
and staff members, caring parents, a committed Board of Trustees--all
devoted to the work of a progressive learning community. I
look forward to providing leadership as the school continues
the important work of teaching and learning."--
Amy Purcell Vorenberg
