TPS TIGERS SWEEP STATE SCHOLASTIC CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Philadelphia School chess club, coached by Ross Colby, brought home three first place team trophies from the 2008 State Scholastic Chess Championships, held in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on March 8 and 9. Players also won several individual trophies and medals, including first grade champion in the K-3 Open, third grade champion in the K-3 Open (shared by three of our students!), and first place in the K-6 Under 800 section. The Philadelphia School offers chess lessons as part of the kindergarten curriculum and as an optional after school activity.
