GRADUATION
Class of 2007
The class of 2007 received their diplomas on
Friday, June 8. At The Philadelphia School, graduation is
a two-day affair. On Thursday afternoon, the graduating eighth
graders had an opportunity to say good-bye to their sixth and
seventhth grade classmates and to all the teachers who had
taught them in earlier grades. Afterwards, each Middle School
advisor paid tribute to his or her advisees individually at
an informal farewell ceremony.
On Friday morning, before receiving their diplomas,
each graduate gave a speech or sang. Interspersed
throughout the ceremony were songs by the Primary and Junior
Unit choruses, as well as a song by the sixth and seventh graders.
The guest speaker was Harry Roth, a TPS parent
who has served on the Board of Trustees for many
years and has been coach of the boys’ basketball team
for the past three years. Rachel Goodman, presdient of the
Student Council, introduced Harry as someone who "understands
basketball; understands this school; and understands
this eighth grade class, which is a remarkable thing on its
own."
Congratulations
to the graduates were extended by Daniel Diadul, incoming
president of the Board of Trustees; and diplomas were
presented by Amy Purcell Vorenberg, head
of school.
The ceremony closed with the traditional singing of "Make
New Friends" by the graduating class and the Class of
2015 – our kindergartners. Preschool students presented each
graduate with a flower and waved good-bye fom the stage during
the recessional.
