PRIMARY UNIT A, B, C SUMMER READING
June 2008
Dear Incoming First and Second Grade Parents,
The Primary Unit A, B, and C teachers hope all children will continue
to enjoy books throughout the summer. The answer to the frequently asked
question, "Is
there anything I can be doing to help my child in school?" is read
to your child and make sure he or she reads regularly. Level of difficulty
of books is less important than frequency and regularity.
The following online children's reading lists should be helpful in selecting
books to read with your child:
American
Library Association's Notable Children's Books
Bank
Street College Best Children's Books
New
York Public Library Best Books for Children
There are hundreds of wonderful books that may not be listed, and
you and your child are encouraged to discover and enjoy those books
as well. (All current PU A, B, and C parents will also be receiving
a more individualized list for your child’s independent reading.)
We have informed Border's Book Store, Barnes and Noble, Robin's Book
Store, and Joseph Fox Bookseller in Philadelphia, as well as Children's
Book World in Haverford, of the online lists we have provided to you.
In addition, many of these books can be found at the Free Library.
We thank you for supporting your child's reading and hope that you have
a wonderful summer!
