URBAN CURRICULUM
Students at The Philadelphia School are
not limited to a few special field trips each year. Instead
museums, historic sites, and other destinations often become
"home base" for thematic studies. For example, the
Middle School's examination of ancient civilizations often
focuses around the collections of Penn's Museum
of Archaeology and Anthropology. The Primary Unit's study of
a 19th-century Japanese manuscript was in partnership with
the Rosenbach Museum and Library. Last year the school
participated in the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary's official
celebration of Franklin's 300th birthday; the Middle School
worked with several Philadelphia cultural and educational insitutions
to produce the online exhibit Franklin
Remixed.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a frequent
destination for art classes and theme classes alike. A First
Friday tour of Old City galleries is an eighth grade tradition.
